Title:  “Creating a Balanced Literacy Approach in the Elementary”

Intended Audience:  Pre-K - 6

Overview:  This presentation will focus on our academic program which features a strong emphasis on a balanced literacy approach that follows the America’s Choice Literacy program.  Instruction at Salmon River Elementary includes a 2 ½ hour literacy block.  This English Language Arts block consists of a balanced literacy program of Writer’s Workshop, Reader’s Workshop, and skills development.  The panel will present some ideas on how to achieve this concept within your school community and provide time for discussion.

Title:  “"Getting Off the List; Components of Recovery”

Intended Audience:  K – 12

Overview:  This presentation will describe and discuss the key ingredients, strategies, and specific instructional improvements used to move from Corrective Action Year 2 to School in Good Standing. Resources for school improvement will be shared at this session.

Presenter: Mary Milford, Middle School Literacy Coach, Schenectady CSD

Title:   Literacy Strategies for a Middle School Classroom”

Intended Audience:  6 – 8

Overview:  This presentation will focus on instructional strategies in reading and writing to help middle school students to become lifelong readers and writers across all core subjects.  It will entail Balanced Literacy Framework and Differentiated Instruction theory, practice and practical applications.

  

Presenter: Jacqueline Dechiaro, Principal   Cohoes Van Schaick Grade School,

Title:  “Interpreting Data to Drive Instruction and Support the RTI process”

Intended Audience: K – 5

Overview: This presentation will focus on ways the staff at Van Schaick Grade School uses formal and informal assessment results to inform their instruction. It will describe how we implement the RTI process at our school from our beginning to the present.

Overview:  This presentation will focus on the practical application within the classroom and building of Rtl. “Real life, hands-on approach will be used to demonstrate what RtI “looks like” for our children.

Overview:  This presentation will allow participants to have an understanding of how to implement a K-2 RtI program within their school district.  We will walk through all the necessary steps required for implementation.
